Painting Process: "Mediterranean Morning"

Despite the painting’s title, this house is actually located on Lake Washington in Juanita Bay. It was a fun commission to exaggerate the vibrancy and bring the colors to life – and the reflection was definitely a fun part!

Like all paintings, it all starts out as a sketch on the canvas. I drew out a detailed plan before adding any paint onto the canvas.

Then I begin to layer in the sky and trees in the background.

This is me working on the piece during the West Seattle Art Walk at West Seattle Ground Coffee.

I brought this piece with me to several art festivals and events over the summer, and I painted live on it while talking to visitors. It was the perfect piece to work on because of its never-ending detail I could always be refining!

I add in touches of bright colors as pinks, reds, and oranges in the blooming flowers. This pop of brightness among the greens and blues brings the piece to life.

Lastly I refine details such as the handrail, and finish up the fine lines on the window trim. Then after over 35 hours of painting, it’s finally finished!
